Have you ever experienced an unwanted burst of anxiety right before bed? If so, you may be familiar with the practice of writing down what you need to do the following day as a way to help you relax.
The idea is that getting those tasks and concerns down on paper, and out of your head, help keep you from worrying yourself to sleep. There’s something about writing it down that frees you from the mental weight of things.
Let’s put that practice to work in a bigger way. Take 5 minutes, right now if you can, and right down everything you DON’T want to take into 2023. It doesn’t matter whether or not you know how to actually get rid of the habit, experience or feeling you no longer want. You can figure out the “how” later. Allow yourself to release what no longer serves you as you gear up for a new year.
Write down things like “I will no longer doubt my brilliant ideas just because they’re bigger than I’m used to” or “I will commit to protecting my boundaries instead of making exceptions” on your paper.
Envision those things you don’t want leaving your life and notice how your mind and body seem to feel lighter. Ball that piece of paper up and trash it (or recycle it if you can 😉 ).
Let’s commit to leaving ALL limiting beliefs and ALL self-sabotaging habits behind.
