Women Leaders, Friend or Foe?

How do you engage with other executive women?  Do you feel intimidated or competitive? Or, inspired? I often tell my young teenage daughter that when another girl shines it doesn’t diminish her sparkle.

In fact, we all are made of up of different color glitter. Mix that glitter together…nothing but bling!  Why? Because as individuals we are uniquely talented and gifted. Match that with the gifts of other women and amazing things can happen.

Recently I had the honor of serving on a panel to promote “Women’s Empowerment”. There was a pre-call with the panelists and organizers to talk through the format, goals and agenda for the event.

At the beginning of the call participants were asked to introduce themselves. I had planned to provide my introduction in a generic way just to move the exercise along. When my co-panelists introduced themselves and shared such impressive credentials I realized that I needed to step up my game – but not in a competitive way.

These women realized how important the introduction was in setting the stage for our call and they weren’t going to take a short cut. By recognizing the need to step up my game in that moment I realized that I needed to elevate to the level at which they were operating.

My challenge to you

  • Identify a woman who inspires you to elevate
  • Reflect on one way that you can raise your game
  • Begin to put it into practice

Oh, and be sure to let her know how she inspired you!
