[Mindset Check] Scarcity vs. Abundance

When was the last time you made a decision for yourself?

If you thought back to your latest choice for lunch or whether or not you’d take a real vacation this year . . . guess what? More than likely, you didn’t make that decision for yourself after all.

YOUR MINDSET DID.

I often share practical examples with my clients to illustrate how easy it can be to miss the ways in which mindset influences our daily decision-making. This is especially true in the case of Scarcity vs. Abundance.

These two opposites function as settings for our mindset, coloring the way we show up. In the example of making a choice for lunch, when you dash for what’s quickest you’re letting a perceived scarcity of time make the decision for you. If you’ve ever let scarcity run the show for too long, then you know how it feels when you seem to never have enough time, freedom, money or any other resource.

Your mindset begins to create your reality. In the career realm, when we make decisions from scarcity we choose roles, boundaries, and paths that are less of what we actually desire. This can only leave us feeling less than fully fulfilled.

Thankfully, abundance works in a similar fashion. Training your brain to have abundance as a default mindset will, in turn, manifest more abundance. For example, when you interview while feeling that you have an abundance of options on the table you’ll be more confident and more likely to impress.

So thinking in abundance, even before the proof of that abundance actually shows up, will help you get where you want to be.
