This is me in the first grade.

My dad died on his birthday 25 years ago. My mom recently reminded me that he once told her that I could be the President of the United States. Pretty profound considering he wasn’t alive to see the first Black President, and of course, we have yet to see a woman lead the country.

Even through all of my mistakes, bad decisions and false starts, my parents placed trust in the woman I would become. They knew those hiccups along the way didn’t define my potential.

I definitely won’t become President of the United States, but I did quit my job to become the President of my own company.

I think my dad would be quite proud. I know my mother is.

I share this with you because there’s someone in your life whose greatness you’ve gotten a glimpse of, whose abilities you admire and whose growth you’re excited to see.

Consider this an invitation to let them know what you see in them. There’s a chance they might not fully recognize these attributes in themselves. Your words may create an awakening, plant a seed, or could be a much needed reminder.

Perhaps you’re the person who needs to be reminded of your greatness, and if so, consider this my reminder to you that you’re a pretty big deal.
